3D Printing And Kids

I first met 13 year old Riley Lewis at SolidWorks World 2011 in San Antonio (see “A Conversation With Riley Lewis“) and have stayed in touch with him ever since. Seeing the kids enthusiasm and drive to push his limits I got 3D Systems to donate a RapMan 3D printing kit to his school. Riley’s ever supporting father David Lewis, a engineer at Agilent, has been documenting the progress that Riley and his friends are making through a blog series called “3D Printing At Discovery Charter School” that has run into 16 parts.

If you are keeping track of what we are doing with Cubify, you may be aware that the 25 city Cube Odyssey  started the day the Cube went on sale at Cubify.com. The team is at the Cool Product Expo in San Francisco where they met Riley Lewis. Here is a short road side interview that Adam Reichental of 3D Systems did with him.

I can’t wait to see what kind of stuff Riley and his friends do with the Cube.

When I told my 8 year old son the other day that I had ordered a Cube for us to print stuff at home, he said, “Good! So now we don’t have to go to the toy shop anymore.” He thought for a while and then added, “I wonder how many of these Santa Claus has“.

I burst out laughing. 😉
