Now Even AutoCAD Can Open CATIA Files

As part of our MCAD proprietary file import plug-ins for AutoCAD, today we released two plug-ins that import CATIA V4 and V5 part, assembly, graphics, export and session files. You can see the press release here.

CATIA V4 Import for AutoCAD can read CATIA V4 part and assembly (.model), export (.exp) and session (.session) files from CATIA 4.1.9 to CATIA 4.2.4. whereas CATIA V5 Import for AutoCAD can read CATIA V5 part (.CATPart), assembly (.CATProduct) and graphics (.cgr) files from CATIA V5 R2 to CATIA V5 R19. It is important to note that the CATIA V5 import plug-in uses authentic CATIA V5 libraries from Dassault Systemes. That’s why the product installer is 85 MB.

So now even AutoCAD can open CATIA files. I say “even” because I have been making some noise on this blog about SolidWorks not being able to read/write CATIA files. In due course of time, SYCODE will offer a solution to that problem as well. We are working on it.
