Questions For Versata

As I have mentioned previously on this blog, Versata CEO Scott Brighton is holding a webinar on May 3rd to give an update on the progress made on Think3 and answer questions from customers and partners. Since there has been a lot of discussion about Think3 and Versata on this blog Scott asked me if I wanted to submit questions from my readers. I know some of you have already posted questions in the comments to my previous posts on Think3. Please feel free to post them again so that we have everything in one place. I will be sending the questions to Versata by the end of this week.

    1. for holders of a perpetual license, who chose no WOW support, will you honor reactivation of their license due to machine ID change? If so, give details on procedure.
    2. for customers with maintenance remaining, now that the http://www.think.care does not work, where do they go to transfer licenses, view training etc. or will you refund their balance?
    3. currently your company offers terrible customer service. no response to emails, account managers gone- with no notification of replacement, why? will this improve? give contact names & phone numbers.

1)There is a speculation in the CAD industry that Siemens has already done the first phase of evaluation/ acquisition. Versata/ Esw Capitol not being a technology driven company what is the time line that you plan to wind off think3.
2)If yes, when and if NO, how will you survive with cheap charlies working for you Via O-desk.
3)Think3 had a huge list of capable and well known people in cad industry. To name few are, Allan, Roborto, Davide, Morizio and the list goes on. Can you name 1 of your best Charlie.
4)Having defaulted the stake holder of the product development (IP) interms of salary, How ethical is your company and you to sell the same product which has an arbitration clause?
5)Many customers across the globe has paid 10yrs AMC, today they are not respected and AMCs not valid. Can you please explain?

Deelip, While there are several questions for Versata I think the key ones for customers are related to whether they can rely on Versata to continue product development like before or better and support them. For this the customers wouldn’t rely just on words like “wow”, but on actual actions and their assessment. Some questions that could help make this assessment –

    1) Ownership and who’s who! – Why does Versata have a maze of companies (versata inc, versata fz llc, think3 inc, odesk, etc) to manage think3’s affairs? What’s the relationship with these entities? Who are the responsible people? And inspite of all these companies, most of the people who customers deal with or who write code or test the product are not employees of any of these companies. Why?

    2) Development Efforts – What is your vision for the product development? Who are the leaders of r&d and product development and what is their expertise and experience? How can one manage continuity in the product development without long term employment of key people? In the latest release you claim that it has 12 fixes done over one month. On an average a single developer in the old team was fixing more issues every month. Will this be the pace of resolving issues? How many developers do you employ for think3 products and on which areas are they working on?

    3) Strategy – why has the new think3 owner / management not pumped in money to revive the company? on the contrary the company has been stripped of its assets and allowed to go bankrupt, leaving employees and suppliers in the lurch and giving us (customers) a poor deal in the bargain. was this the intention from the beginning?
