SolidWorks World 2010 (Day 2) – Direct Modeling

We were not allowed to take video. I guess probably because the keynote speakers prohibit it. So I will need to make do with the following pictures to explain the direct modeling that SolidWorks has been working on. I think it is freaking awesome!!

The orange rectangle you see is a mouse window select. Basically the user intends to widen the model and has selected the components to widen by doing a window select.

And now he just drags one of the arrow of the gizmo with the mouse and the entire model is modified. Since the part is symmetric the other side is moved as well. My guess is that features and their underlying sketches and parameters are modified in real time. Like I said, freaking awesome.

I intend to find out more about the innards of this technology. If I manage to find out, you will be the first to know.
