Wanted – CEO for SpaceClaim

SpaceClaim’s PR firm contacted me to clarify that Rich Moore is not the CEO as I mentioned earlier today. This is what they said, “While Rich is indeed a public face of the company, he is not taking over Mike’s role as CEO. The company has undertaken a search for a new CEO“.

So Rich Moore is “a” public face of SpaceClaim, not “the” public face as Randall mentioned on CADCAMNet. Not quite sure what to make of that.

Well, they could be like Infineon was for a few months, and not have a CEO, just the Board of Control and its spokesman (Peter Bauer). Mr. Bauer was later named CEO.

SpaceClaim needs a CEO who will kill the horrible current marketing plan that they now have. There is no way SpaceClaim is going to make it using Novedge and looking for Rhino dealers to sell SpaceClaim.

If I were CEO of SpaceClaim one of the things that I would do is approach CNC Software(Mastercam) Surfware(Surfcam), Delcam (Featurecam), etc. and find away to license the source code in SpaceClaim to them because the CAD in all of these products is badly outdated. All of these products would greatly benefit from adopting SpaceClaim as their CAD and making the SpaceClaim user interface their user interface.

    Jon,

In my opinion, the Rhino-SpaceClaim alliance is perfect. It is an excellent example of two companies joining forces instead of spending resources fighting each other.

And adding Novedge to the mix just makes it better. Novedge used to sell our products before we decided to drop our entire reseller channel and sell direct to end users. I think Novedge does a fantastic job and what they do. I have yet to see another reseller website that comes even close to that of Novedge. I have worked with other resellers and can vouch for Novedge.

As far as SpaceClaim licensing their source code to CAM vendors, maybe it should be the other way around. As a first step they could partner with a CAM vendor to develop a powerful CAM add-in for SpaceClaim.

I have to agree with you when you say that the user interfaces of CAM systems badly need facelift.

It's good to see we have something new we can disagree on now that Greg Millikan is history. (I'll live if you delete this comment.) :>)

"In my opinion, the Rhino-SpaceClaim alliance is perfect. It is an excellent example of two companies joining forces instead of spending resources fighting each other."

How can it be perfect if they aren't selling any SpaceClaim product?

"Novedge used to sell our products before we decided to drop our entire reseller channel and sell direct to end users."

Good move. Novedge adds no value and does a poor job selling product.

CAM companies aren't interested because SpaceClaim has next to a zero market share.

"I have to agree with you when you say that the user interfaces of CAM systems badly need facelift."

    Very badly.

I love your blog. Keep up the good work.

Apparently, SpaceClaim is beginning to sell, thanks to their changing direction. I believe all they need is some time and an aggressive and targeted marketing campaign.

For the record, we terminated all our resellers, not just Novedge. It was a business decision we made at that time as it was simply not feasible for a small company like ours to maintain a reseller channel. If that changes in time, I think Novedge will be the first reseller we will hire.

SpaceClaim has a great product that addresses a real problem, uncontrolled model history.

The issue is they have had ZERO leadership and a worse go-to-market approach. It will be intersting to see if they actually end up doing something when they do find a CEO.

Coselling with anyone mentioned above will lead to a less then interesting market. If they are a CAD system then they must compete for CAD users!

I’m in agreement with the views of the anonymous poster above.

Additionally Deelip, of all the posters to McNeel’s Rhino news server only two Rhino users who are not resellers have purchased SpaceClaim.

SpaceClaim just isn’t selling. Something’s got to give or they aren’t going to be around much longer in the form they exist in now.

Good technology doesn’t sell itself whether it’s SpaceClaim or Solid Edge with ST.

It’s about a year late for hiring a new CEO. At this point, the company is more likely to be sold for peanuts than to regain the momentum on its own.
