Improved Graphics Performance In Rhino 5
In a post titled “3D Graphics Performance Comparison” I compared the graphics performance of more than a dozen CAD systems installed on my computer. One of them was Rhino 4 and its video didn’t look pretty. Here it is once again.
One reader suggested that I try the same thing on Rhino 5 which is in Beta at the moment. I had downloaded a Rhino WIP (Work In Progress) a while ago to test my Rhino plug-ins and planned to test again with a Beta towards the end of the beta stage. The thing with Rhino WIP’s and Beta’s is that they expire regularly and I am not a very active Beta tester. So today I downloaded the latest beta and loaded the same large engine model into it. This is what it looked like.
As you can see, its much better now. The messy edges are much smoother. The navigation is still not as smooth as the other CAD system in the comparison. So there is still room for improvement.
And by the way, for those who didn’t keep track of the comments the comparison post, the CAD system in the last video is Moment Of Inspiration by a genius called Michael Gibson. I will be writing in greater detail about the awesome MoI graphics engine developed by Michael. Its really interesting. Watch this space.
