News Alert – Bricsys Releases Bricscad V11
In a press release issued today Bricsys announced the release of V11 of Bricscad, one of the better AutoCAD clones out there (see comparison). One of the key enhancements in this release that I found interesting was the addition of Redway3D’s rendering engine.
The press release states:
“Bricscad is recognized as the number one .dwg CAD alternative. The level of .dwg compatibility, together with the availability of a constant growing number of third party applications – actually more than 160 – makes Bricscad the best alternative solution.”
Of the 160 third party applications 24 belong to SYCODE. Bricsys intends to release Bricscad Classic V11 for Linux in a couple of weeks. You can download a trial of Bricscad V11 for Windows and Bricscad V10 for Linux from here.
I also found it interesting that Bricsys has followed the ODA is using “.dwg” where they previously used “DWG”. This is obviously not to get into trouble with Autodesk which is trying to trademark the three letter acronym. Other AutoCAD clone developers like Graebert, ZWCAD, IMSI/Design, etc. have not yet started doing this.
