A Few Changes
This blog is hosted on a Windows dedicated server at HostGator, a web host I highly recommend. Over the past couple of weeks some of you may have experienced PHP or database errors when accessing this blog. The HostGator admins have pinpointed the problem to web traffic which appears to have increased lately. Take a look at what my recent series on “What Exactly Is Creo?” did to my web stats.
On a normal weekday this blog gets 2,000 to 3,000 page views. The day after PTC announced Creo that jumped to almost 8,000. Also on that same day PHP crashed on my server 5 times. I was literally fed up of apologizing to my concerned readers telling me that they couldn’t access this blog.
Late last night I moved to a new more powerful server at HostGator. If you are reading this post it means that the new name servers have propagated to your corner of the world. Hopefully the traffic problem has now been fixed now. If you face any problems accessing this site please drop me a line at deelip [at] sycode [dot] com. They say too much of a good thing is bad. Web traffic is definitely one of those things. 😉
There are a few more changes to this blog. I have changed my WordPress theme. I have been using a standard theme all this time and I pretty much got fed up of it. If you have been reading this blog using a feed reader, you may have noticed that I have now started truncating the feed. This is because of some unscrupulous elements who abuse the concept of RSS feeds to drive the content of their web sites without writing a word of their own. In my opinion RSS feeds were meant for private consumption, not to violate the copyright of people and steal traffic from them.
For quite some time now I have been placing ads on this blog, mainly for my company’s products and my OpenCAD book. I have now decided to open up this blog to allow other companies to advertise as well. Back in 2006 I didn’t start this blog with the intention of making money. But considering the amount of time and energy I put into it, I might as well see if I can. So if you would like to advertise at Deelip.com please get in touch with me to see how I can relieve you of some of your money. 😉
